I recently was forced to rewatch this film after slandering its supposedly good name (I thought it was universally hated but I guess I don’t know anything). Overall while I remembered it worst I’ll still stand by saying it’s the worst of the Cars trilogy by a pretty long way. It felt so disconnected from the race which was the most interesting part of the series to me and I didn’t even really get what they were going for. They must’ve been leaning into the cliche of it all but I thought they did that pretty clumsily and it kind of felt purposeless to be doing it at all. Like it didn’t really feel like they were using it for jokes, the movie just happened to be really cliche. That didn’t help the characters either because these new guys fuckin sucked and McQueen and Mater’s dynamic didn’t even change despite the conflict. It’s only rated this highly because the animation was really good, I was told it was re-released when it went onto streaming but whatever happened, the version we watched looked pretty fantastic. Not the worst movie ever but Pixar could’ve done way better.
