Sorry in advance, this will be a pretty shallow assessment but mainly because the album didn’t intrigue me enough to look deeper. I imagine if you’re reading this as an Olivia Rodrigo fan or just a fan of this album this may be annoying as from what I’ve heard the writing of this album is fantastic, that said I really couldn’t care less as this was so boring. It’s weird as one or two songs through I was thinking it was actually pretty good, however as song after song went by I began to realise everything was a little too samey. I liked how it was broken up by sound into two parts to tell a story, that’s some really cool shit but a side effect of that I think was that both sounds go on for so long without break that by the end of their particular segment I was no longer particularly interested in them. Doesn’t help that this genre (pop rock) has never been one of my favourites, I’m sure if this was a jazz rock album this would be a completely different conversation but yeah, I don’t see the hype here (GUTS better).
