I’m growing increasingly aware that Guardians of the Galaxy might be the best trilogy marvel put out. I had last watched this movie when it came out which is almost a decade ago now and I think it’s a sign of its quality that it stuck with both me and the general populace as much as it did over this time. They did just about everything right with this to me to the point that I think it surpasses the previous movie (which I won’t be updating my thoughts on I think I was very apt and succinct last time). It felt like this film had a much stronger emotional backbone to stand on compared to the last which blew its emotional load off rip and never really reached that level again, the comedy didn’t feel like it watered these moments down either which was nice. I liked Gamora and Nebula’s dynamic being resolved in a way I think fits their characters, I thought Rocket’s mini-arc with Yondu was very sweet and obviously Starlord and Yondu’s scenes were brilliant and the best of the film. This isn’t even mentioning the fantastic colour palette and cinematography though that might as well be expected with James Gunn’s very solid output and the inclusion of Mantis was so seamless I had forgotten she wasn’t a mainstay member this whole time. Really excited to check out volume 3 as I’m unsure as to whether I ever watched it.
Can’t believe I forgot to mention the soundtrack here, one of the best of any MCU film, maybe only the first guardians film can match it and I still think this is better.
