Bandit certainly is a movie. Recently I’ve been watching a lot of slop as background noise while I study so I definitely came in knowing this wasn’t exactly going to be a masterpiece but with how good it looked I had at least hoped it would be fun. This is also another movie where I went in knowing it was based on a true story (though I’m pretty sure the based does a lot of heavy lifting here).
The issue with bandit for me was that simultaneously a huge amount of things were happening as well as nothing at all. There’s multiple montages of this guy robbing banks but honestly I think a much more interesting movie could’ve been made with a single well planned out robbery because it gets a little mind numbing like this. Maybe that’s the point to emphasise just how many banks he robbed but I somehow doubt it. I’d also have liked if the wife played more of a part, like how is the wife going to be completely accepting of you robbing banks n shit and you don’t have a Bonnie and Clyde type situation. I appreciated the attempt to give Robert some character development with him becoming Tommy’s friend but it felt like it barely mattered aside from one line at the end, idk. Wasn’t repulsively bad like Tag and still got through the whole thing though.
